Unreliable.

This company misrepresented theirselves from day one promising low-cost and fast delivery my items left my home on July 11th was told they would arrive at my new home July 25th I did not see any of my items until August 24th and at the time of delivery was missing a whole pod of my personal belongings and furniture, so now I'm waiting on another delivery of this pod this company never knows where your things are they do not know what the right hand and the left hand are doing. When you ask to speak to a supervisor or manager you're always told they do not have one you asked to have the owners email they do not give you that information you will talk to a representative in Florida the next day you'll talk to representative in California it is the most mismanaged company I have ever dealt with in my life I have spent multiple hours on the phone with this company with no resolve they were operating at one time without a DOT Number that had been revoked they were not even aware that this had been revoked until I told them!! no responsibilities of this company at all many of the people who answer the phone appear to be very uneducated and at times are very rude when I did receive my partial shipment the only two people who came to unload was the driver and his small petite wife I have very large heavy furniture we have had to help them carry furniture I have been left in tears on certain days because I am sleeping on the floor I do not have my beds I don't have a lot of my clothes I have had to go out and buy things to begin my new job this has been one of the most stressful times of my life I honestly cannot say enough bad things about this company not even including the price they quoted me and the price that they wanted was almost triple I am still left in limbo where my things are and when I might get them..do not I repeat do not use this company.

Long-distance move from Sherman Oaks, CA to Westlake, OH

A review for Jgentle for my move to Westlake.

I usually do not write reviews but the employee I worked with Mike was a stand-up dude and I saw no reviews anywhere for Jgentle and wanted to hook him up. So, Mike ended up more of a friend to me than a salesman. I spent a month getting my move ready with Jgentle. Mike went through all of my inventory over the phone and sent him pictures of all of my items, so he was able to basically do an in-home estimate over the phone. Jumping ahead my actual moving cost was $50 less than the estimate. He went over how his company did space and not weight which locks in the price. Weight estimates I guess can fluctuate. He saw items on my inventory that were fragile and included special wrapping material to be brought on the truck. To top it off he was a Cubs fan so he was alright with me. The movers who showed up did all my packing and brought the right boxes and wrapping material and did it very quickly. Now, I found the time to get my items in Ohio a little more delayed than I would’ve preferred but I understand it was a 2500-mile distance so it’s understandable. The delivery team was different than the people who picked them up but still a Jgentle truck. Great Job and thank you Michael!

Long-distance move from Glen Ridge, NJ to Lansing, MI

Scam. Fraud. Threatening. NEVER AGAIN.

Welp, I've had some bad movers before, but JGentle is by far the worst mover - the worst service provider of ANY KIND - I've ever had the displeasure of working with.

The movers did not arrive at my house today until 2:30 pm - over 5 hours after they said they would arrive, and everything went downhill from there. Here's the highlights:

1. Rather than carry boxes into my house, the movers loaded their dollies with 5 or 6 boxes at a time, rolled them up the stairs into my brand new house, and then rolled the boxes while still on the dollies down the stairs into my lower level. I immediately told them this was unacceptable since there were fragile items in many of the boxes, but they responded by telling me that the move would take too long if they carried each box, and I had no choice - they would not carry the boxes. As the dollies crashed down up and down the stairs with my belongings banging around, I could hear glass shattering. In the process, your movers also broke my bottom stair going from the garage into the house.

2. Instead of bringing my furniture into my house and then unwrapping the items, your movers unwrapped my furniture on my front lawn and then brought them into the house, filthy with dirt and grass beneath them.

3. Several of my furniture items were irreparably damaged before they arrived at my house, I'm assuming either in the truck or in your storage unit:
- My brand new platform bed had water stains and mold all over it when it was brought into my house. Several of the under-the-bed drawers have been sliced as well. I've attached photos where you can see the water discoloration and the cut drawers. This bed is smells like death and is now in my garbage can outside, as I cannot sleep on a bed covered in mold. It was in perfect condition when your movers put it into their truck.
- The top of my brand new side table was scratched all across the top and it has been bent about 30 degrees, so therefore I cannot put anything on top of it because the surface is no longer flat. It was in perfect condition when your movers put it into their truck.
- Your mover placed my brand new jewelry armoire cabinet upside down when he brought it into the house, right on top of the over-the-door hooks that hang it on a door, breaking the hooks. The movers also lost the key to the cabinet, making it completely useless to me.

4. Alonso, who was the foreman for both the pickup from NJ and today's drop-off in Michigan, is a nice guy, But he continually banged furniture and boxes on my brand new walls as he was lazily carrying them in today, so much that at one point I actually had to request that he stop banging things into the walls.

5. In order to get some items into my lower level, Alonso took the door off the hinges, but he left without putting the door back on. He also refused to put the bed back together, which obviously doesn't matter because the bed is covered in mold and is now garbage.

6. My BIGGEST problem with the move - beyond the broken items, the broken stair, the disrespect of my home and the bed full of mold, is the fact that I had to pay for final delivery BEFORE the movers would begin unloading the truck. I was actually told by Alonso that I had to pay cash, but I told him I would not do that because I needed proof of payment in case I needed to report a claim. But he told me I needed to pay before he would unload, and then at the end of the move he told me I had to sign the contract without even looking at it to make sure everything that was picked up was delivered.

This is all on top of the problems I had with the initial pick up, which was full of lies, including being charged for 800 cubic feet when my move was only 700 cubic feet.

I've had some bad experiences with movers before, but nothing comes close to this.

Long-distance move from Bloomfield, NJ to Delray Beach, FL

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY

They deserve NO STARS. I provided an exacting detailed inventory - down to the box sizes, numbers, and the cubic feet being moved in July, for a move in September. J Gentle Van Lines - who consistently cannot be reached by phone - sent outside packers who arrived, looked around, and insisted I immediately pay them 1/3 more than the estimate because "you have a lot of stuff" or they would leave, charged two faked "long carry" fees of over $800, refused to take all my furniture saying their truck was "full" when it was half empty (see photo at end of move), and did not take any care with stacking items clearly marked fragile. I could not get outside "in transit" insurance for J Gentle because of their low ratings, and the company refused to offer their own by contract. When 3:00 came the day of the move, the packers stopped loading and would not take the balance of my goods. My goods were off loaded, stored in a warehouse, then reloaded to another truck from another company, and after rescheduling three times, arrived at my new home 30 days later with at least a dozen crushed boxes. I am still missing 6 boxes, and have an HDTV in a box that belongs to someone else...but they won't come pick it up or call me back so I can arrange to deliver it to the owner. DO NOT USE THESE PEOPLE.

Long-distance move from Goodyear, AZ to Jacksonville, AL

Go with ANY other company.

We experienced multiple issues and poor business practices throughout our experience with J. Gentle Van Lines. I recently moved from Arizona to Alabama and hired J. Gentle to move our things from our home in Arizona to our new home in Alabama over three months prior to our move. Upon initially booking our move, the representative stated our items would be there within 3 to 5 days of the pick up of our items. Additionally, we went through my home item by item and she quoted me a price. This representative ended up quitting during the process due to the company's poor practices. The day before our moving day J.Gentle called to confirm they would be at our home, at the end of that day they called saying their truck was full and they were not able to pick up our things until the next day. At the end of the next day they called again and stated it would be the following day. On that day they did not call me or show up, upon calling them they stated it would be the following day, same issue occurred. They showed up the following day, 4 days after our original move date, the day the home was closing and the new owners would be there. After packing up our items the movers informed me it could take up to 30 days before the items would arrive at our home. I feel this is bait and switch as when they were after the contract it was 3- 5 days, however, when I had no choice but to let them take my items, it was 30 days. After they had our items we would call weekly and we were repeatedly told "it will go out next week" however, our items did not show up until a month later. Upon receiving our items the boxes were completely trashed and there was over 1,000 dollars in damages. Additionally, throughout the process they continued to charge us more money for miscellaneous things that were not mentioned in the initial booking, causing the final cost to be over a 1,000 dollars more than the original quote.

Long-distance move from Van Nuys, CA to Charlotte, NC

Bait & Switch Scam.

I was very excited about working with this company. The representative was very nice and answered all my questions quickly. I told him I was worried about the size of the move and wanted an over-estimate to be sure that the price was on point. I lost my job and was under a very tight budget for this cross country move. I sent him measurements of every item included in the inventory to be sure that he was quoting correctly. I expressed concern about the lack of online reviews and was told that it was a good thing because that means the customers were all satisfied. I had already reserved another company, but the rep assured me that the price was guaranteed for the items we had and so I went with them. He also assured me that the owner was a great, honest guy and would do everything he could to keep under my budget. So I paid the deposit and finalized my inventory with them. I wish I hadn't. The day of the move the guy calls me and said they would be later than expected, probably a few hours later. Fine. A few hours later it was a few more hours. They ended up showing up at 7:30pm. I had to be out of my apartment by the next morning. Then they say, well it's probably too late to do it today we'll have to come back. Then the guys come in to look at the stuff and say - oh no, this is way more than what you told us. You have way more stuff. I pulled up my inventory with the EXACT measurements of all my items to show them what I sent to the rep and I'm told..oh, well the rep underestimated. It's more than that. How is that my problem if the rep underestimated when I gave him the exact measurements? I expressed that thought and was told, well, he made a mistake I have to charge more. I asked them if the guy was poorly trained or what, because I needed a certain price and would have gone with the other company I had already booked had I of known they were going to come in and price gouge me. He said - he just misquoted. What do you want to do? I have to charge more. I was furious at this point and said, well what choice do I have I have to be out my apartment in the morning. The guy laughed at me and was extremely condescending and said - well, we all have choices in life. At this point, I left the room I was so furious. In the end he ended up charging us $1200+ more than what was quoted and blamed the rep. This was the owner of the company, by the way. He could've honored the price, but instead he chose to rip us off and was so rude. They ended up coming back the next day to move us, causing us to leave much later than when we needed. We finally received our stuff almost 4 weeks later - much longer than what I was guaranteed by the rep - and it turns out they put a bunch of the boxes clearly marked 'FRAGILE' on the bottom so there was a bunch of broken items. My file cabinet was broken along with some bins and a tool chest and decorative things. The only reason I gave 2 stars to them was because the guy who brought the stuff was really nice and helpful - but likely he is a third party person they hired to drive. I tried to write this review long after the move to not be so angry - but I'm still pretty angry. That was a lot of extra money that I desperately needed, that got scammed from me without any sympathy or remorse. Also, there was no JGentle trucks - they were Penske & American Van Lines - so I'm not sure why they claim to use their own trucks.

Long-distance move from Livermore, CA to Parker, CO

Terrible service, broke items.

I signed an estimate with the company for a cost of about $3900 to do my move. When they arrived at my house, although they agreed the sq ft estimate was correct, they whent from 2.7 a sq ft to 3.75 sq ft. When I called to complain, I was told by their customer service person Arthur that this was just the moving business and I had to take it. The people who were at my house were nice and understanding. I went ahead and paid the extra. I was told by a Supervisor named Mike that the person who did my quote had been let go because he was under cutting other businesses just to book jobs and then customers has to pay more. I understood and let that go. I was told there would be absolutely no more cost to me upon delivery then what I agree to. Upon arrival the moving head foreman who arrived to my house was rude and demanded $200 in additional to take items up and downstairs. After getting upset, I calmed down and paid it. It was the money for their tip so I handed it over. They have now broken my grandmother china while bringing it into my house. Damaged my ceiling, walls, railing to my basement and it is going to be probably $1000 in repairs. The young men who made the mistakes apologized but the foreman has been rude and accused my husband of being the issue. I am actually afraid to be alone with the foreman and at this point refuse to speak to him. When calling into talk to someone, I was told basically no one can help me until tomorrow. This service is terrible. I would not recommend to anyone. The company really does not care about the people they are serving.

Long-distance move from California to Oregon

Not gentle at all and Frauds!!

Please don’t make he same mistake I did!! I should have done more research! This company misrepresented themselves from the beginning. First they told me my deposit was refundable with 30 days prior to move date. Come to find it was not! So then I had to go with them, then they told me it would take 6 days for the moving truck to move my stuff from SoCal to Oregon because they pick up other loads in the huge truck along the way. [EDIT]! 2 guys and a Penske truck show up super late and take into the night to move my house that I had already packed up. They tell me they can drive it right up to my new place in Oregon and no wait time, but I had already made plans to stay with family and they were counting on spending last minute time with my family. So they took all my stuff to NV unloaded it and then loaded it back in the day they had stated from the beginning they would deliver on. As soon as they started to pull my stuff out at my new home it’s was all scratched, broken, dented!! All my stuff was fairly new only maybe a few years old and I kept it in excellent condition! I was in tears at the state of everything! The guy apologized and assured me the insurance company would pay for the damaged broken items and or repairs. [EDIT]!! I went through the rediculous submission to the insurance company and I just received a settlement offer of $70.00 lol. Hilarious! Thousands of dollars of damage and they offer $70. Runnnnnn fast and hard away from this company!!

Long-distance move from Hawthorne, NJ to Bel Air, MD

Use any other moving company but this one - HORIBBLE!!!!

Worst experience moving ever. At the pick up they told us we underestimated the amount of space we would need. A $1400 job went to $3400. I set up delivery almost 4 weeks in advance. two days before delivery they called to say they were going to deliver a day early. As the apartment was not ready yet I informed them that was not possible. Delivery needed to occur on the day we scheduled. Day of delivery I get a text saying they will not be there until the following day. Apparently they sent the driver to SC, NC, and VA before sending him to MD. On Sunday I get a text saying they will be there to unload between 3 - 5 pm. At 7 pm I get another call saying they are 3 hours out and cannot deliver today. When they finally showed up they demand payment before they will even begin unloading. The office is the most unresponsive and unprofessional I have ever dealt with. Part of the service was for them to put things back together. They showed up with no tools. I think this is actually the plan so they can get out of doing any extra work. There was a missing item. The movers scratched the floor and couldn't figure out how to put a piece of furniture together. This company takes ZERO accountability for their issues. Once they have your money you are at their mercy. No customer service no communication. DO NOT USE THEM NO MATTER WHAT TYPE OF DEAL THEY QUOTE YOU. Phone calls, texts and emails are ignored.
